Wayne and Michelle Sirles are fifth-generation family farmers at Rendleman Orchards. They are also the third generation of double Saluki alumni/sweethearts to own and operate their over 150-year-old multigenerational family business, located in Alto Pass in the heart of Southern Illinois.
Wayne graduated in 1989 with a B.S. in Horticulture and a minor in Chemistry and Agribusiness. Michelle graduated with her B.A. in 1989, her degree being in Visual Communications.
Married 34 years, together they continue their family heritage as specialty crop growers in Alto Pass, Illinois, an area in Southern Illinois known for fruit growing. The rolling hills just 20 miles south of SIU’s Carbondale campus produces some of the best and sweetest peaches and apples in the Midwest, a treat they can't wait to share with as many people as possible.
Rendleman Orchards raises 14 different varieties of peaches. They sell produce wholesale by truckload across the Midwest. In addition, they offer tree-ripened fruit in their Farm Market located at the orchard. Rendleman Orchards ships their hand-picked peach and apple gift boxes farm-to-porch, nationwide! You will also find other delights from these Saluki alums, such as 3-jar trios of apple butter, preserves, and salsa. Honey made among their flower fields will be another popular gift item available.
“We are looking forward to partnering with the SIU Alumni Association to offer Saluki-made products on the new Saluki Market. What a wonderful way to connect with fellow alumni and support each other's success”, the Sirles said.
