Saluki Market Terms of Use 

Welcome to Saluki Market! We're excited to have you as part of our marketplace, designed exclusively for Southern Illinois University (SIU) students and alumni. Please review these Terms of Use (the "Terms") carefully, as they govern your use of our marketplace. The Terms of Use are dictated by Shopify. By using our Services, you agree to comply with the Terms.

1.  Accepting These Terms 

These Terms represent a legally binding agreement between you and Saluki Market. By accessing or using any part of our Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Marketplace Services. 

    • These Terms apply to: The Saluki Market website and all services are offered through the marketplace. 

If you are using Saluki Market as a business entity, you affirm that you have the authority to bind the entity to these Terms. 

2.  Additional Documents 

Please ensure you review all relevant documents, as your continued use of Saluki Market means you agree to abide by these Terms and related policies. 

3.  Your Privacy 

We take your privacy seriously. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for details on how your personal information is collected, used, and shared. Both Saluki Market and vendors are considered independent data controllers. Vendors are responsible for handling customer data in compliance with applicable laws.

4.  Account Requirements 

  • Age Requirement: You must be 18 years or older to create an account. If you are between 13 and 17 years old, you may use the Services under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. 

  • Accurate Information: You must provide truthful and accurate information when registering an account. 

  • Account Responsibility: You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, so keep your login details secure.  

5.  Vendor Content 

Content that you post on Saluki Market, including product descriptions, images, and reviews, remains your property. However, by posting content, you grant Saluki Market a license to use, modify, and promote it across our platform.  

Key Content Rules: 

    • Vendors must have the right to utilize all content they post. 
    • Misleading, defamatory, deceptive or offensive content is prohibited. 
    • All product listings must comply with our product guidelines and vendor standards (e.g., no prohibited items). 

6.  Product Guidelines and Restrictions 

Saluki Market enforces strict rules for products allowed to be sold. Vendors are required to provide proof of compliance, such as business licenses or certifications, for high-risk categories (e.g., food, electronics). 

  • Allowed Categories: Miscellaneous goods, vintage items, artwork, publications and digital products. 

  • Prohibited Categories: Sales of illegal, political, offensive or dangerous items, firearms, explosives, live animals, pornography, adult entertainment, and cannabis are prohibitedThe SIU Alumni Association will review each product and vendor for the Saluki Market and reserves the right to deny access to any product that might be deemed offensive, controversial or shed negative light on the Alumni Association or university.

Saluki Market does not permit products that promote, oppose, or reference political figures, political parties, political campaigns, or political statements, including slogans, imagery, or messaging.   

  • Vendor Compliance: Vendors in high-risk categories (e.g., food, electronics) must provide proof of compliance, such as business licenses or certifications, to list their products on Saluki Market. Saluki Market reserves the right to deny access to any product that might be deemed offensive, controversial or shed negative light on the Alumni Association or university.   

7.  Fees and Payments 

  • Saluki Market charges a 3% commission fee and there is a 3% payment processing fee on all sales.

  • Saluki Market will assess, collect, and remit all Illinois sales taxes. We will also be monitoring the store for tax due in other states. Reports will be issued monthly to all vendors with the tax that was paid on behalf of the vendor and any taxes collected for any other state.

  • While Saluki Market does have a commission structure, many vendors find that access to our targeted audience justifies the cost. Plus, you're supporting SIU Alumni Association programs with every sale, which includes dollars for programs, events, and student scholarships.

  • Payment Processing: Payments will be handled via a third-party processor, and Saluki Market does not sore sensitive payment information.

8.  Warranties and Limitation of Liability 

Saluki Market acts as a platform for independent vendors and does not manufacture, inspect, or guarantee the quality of items sold. As such: 

  • Saluki Market is not liable for product defects, incorrect descriptions, or damage caused by products sold through the marketplace. Any legal claims should be directed to the vendor. 

  • Saluki Market does not guarantee the accuracy or availability of any content posted by vendors. 

9.  Dispute Resolution 

The terms of this Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, regardless of the law that might otherwise apply under applicable principles of conflicts of law If disputes arise between users, Saluki Market encourages resolution directly between the parties involved. However, Saluki Market management may assist in resolving disputes through our internal resolution process at our discretion. 

  • Binding Arbitration in Illinois: All disputes that cannot be resolved through informal means will be subject to binding arbitration in the state of Illinois. Both parties waive their right to sue in court, except for small claims or intellectual property disputes. 

  • Opt-out Provision: Parties may opt-out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by contacting us.  

10. Indemnification 

Customers agree to indemnify and hold Saluki Market harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of our Services, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law. 

11. Changes to Terms 

Saluki Market reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. If material changes are made, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the platform. Continued use of our Services after the changes take effect signifies your agreement to the updated Terms. 

These Terms of Service outline clear expectations for both sellers and buyers, protect your platform from liability, and define the rules around appropriate product listings, payments, and disputes. 

Saluki Market - House Rules 

Welcome to Saluki Market! These rules are part of our Terms of Use and are designed to ensure a positive, safe, and successful experience for all our vendors and buyers.  

  • By participating in Saluki Market, you agree to these guidelines. 

Effectively Immediately:    

1.  Selling Basics 

  • What Can Be Sold on Saluki Market

Saluki Market is a unique marketplace exclusively for SIU students, alumni and friends of the university. 

Vendors are allowed to sell the following: 

    • Miscellaneous goods, vintage items, artwork, publications and digital products. 
    • Products must be the vendor’s own creation or something you have full rights to sell.  All products must follow applicable intellectual property standards. 

    • High-risk items (e.g., food, electronics) require proof of compliance, such as business licenses or certifications. 

If a vendor has a question on a potential product, please feel free to contact the Market to inquire about the possibility of featuring it on the Saluki Market.  

When listing items for sale, vendors must: 

    • Provide an accurate representation of the item, including detailed photos and descriptions. 

    • Disclose the origin and any production partners if applicable. 

    • Use original content (no stock photos or third-party images). 

    • Follow all required licensing and product guidelines and laws. 

  • What Can’t Be Sold on Saluki Market 

Some items are prohibited, including: 

    • Sales of illegal, offensive or dangerous items, firearms, explosives, live animals, pornography, adult entertainment, and cannabis are prohibitedThe SIU Alumni Association will review each product and vendor for the Saluki Market and reserves the right to deny access to any product that might be deemed offensive, controversial or shed negative light on the Alumni Association or university.   

    • Products that violate applicable trademark or other intellectual property guidelines. 

Listings that violate these guidelines will be removed, and vendors may face suspension or termination of their account. 

  • Managing Your Saluki Market Shop 

As a vendor, your shop represents you and your business.  All vendors shall follow and shall be bound by the Saluki Market Vendor Standards & GuidelinesIn general, vendors agree to meet Market standards by: 

    • Providing honest and accurate information. 
    • Respecting intellectual property rights and requirements. 

    • Adhering to all applicable laws and regulations, especially for high-risk categories. 

    • Following the Saluki Market Honor CodeVendors are responsible for maintaining clear and effective communication with buyers, providing excellent customer service, and fulfilling orders promptly.  

  • Seller Standards 

Vendors must meet Saluki Market Vendor Standards & Guidelines, which include: 

    • Shipping items promptly and honoring processing times. 

    • Responding to buyer inquiries in a timely manner. 

    • Maintaining honest and accurate listings and shop policies. 

    • Resolving disputes directly with buyers when possible. 

Failure to meet these standards may result in limited visibility or suspension of your shop.

2.  Reviews, Disputes, and Your Success 

  • Reviews: Buyers can leave reviews for products they’ve purchased, helping you build a reputation.  

Vendors can also respond to reviews, but may not: 

    • Post false or misleading responses. 

    • Use reviews to undermine competitors. 

  • Dispute Resolution: If a dispute arises, vendors should attempt to resolve the issue with the buyer directly.  

  • Case System: Vendors have 48 hours to respond to disputes raised by buyers. Saluki Market reserves the right to issue refunds or take further action to resolve disputes when necessary. 

3.  Your Vendor Account and Terms 

By selling on Saluki Market, you agree to follow these rules. Saluki Market reserves the right to: 

  • Limit the visibility of your shop if it violates our standards or policies. 

  • Suspend or terminate your account for violations. 

Vendors in high-demand categories or with rapidly increasing sales may see a fluctuation in visibility. Ensure that your shop continues to meet customer service expectations to maintain a positive ranking.

4.  Seller Agreement 

Key Clauses: 
  • Terms of Service 
    Vendors agree to sell only approved and appropriate products on Saluki Market. 

  • Compliance with Laws 
    Vendors will ensure that all products comply with local, state, and federal laws.

  • Product Responsibility 
    Vendors are fully responsible for the quality and delivery of the products they sell, as well as any liability claims associated with them. 

  • Commission/Fees Structure 

    • Saluki Market charges a 3% commission fee and there is a 3% payment processing fee on all sales.   

    • While Saluki Market does have a commission structure, many vendors find that access to our targeted audience justifies the cost. Plus, you’re supporting SIU Alumni Association programs with every sale, which includes dollars for programs, events, and student scholarships.  

  • Insurance Requirement 
    Vendors must provide proof of liability insurance, and the marketplace has the right to remove listings that do not comply.
  • Right to Remove Listings 
    The marketplace reserves the right to remove listings or suspend accounts that violate marketplace policies or if the items being sold are deemed inappropriate. 

  • Data Privacy & Usage 
    Vendors agree to the terms around customer data, including not misusing any customer information provided through the platform. 

 5.  Insurance & Liability Requirements for Saluki Market Sellers 

  • Insurance Requirements 

As an active seller on Saluki Market, you are required to maintain your own business insurance coverage. This insurance should be appropriate for your business type and products offered through our marketplace. 

  • Liability Agreement 

By selling on Saluki Market, you acknowledge and agree that: 

    • Saluki Market serves solely as a marketplace platform connecting sellers with buyers. 

    • You assume full liability for all products listed and sold through your seller account. 

    • You are solely responsible for any legal claims, disputes, or issues arising from:

      • Product quality 

      • Product safety 

      • Product delivery 

      • Customer satisfaction 

      • Any other aspects related to your sales activities 

    • Saluki Market bears no responsibility or liability for any claims, damages, or legal actions resulting from your products or services 

Your continued use of Saluki Market as a seller constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions regarding insurance and liability requirements.
