What began as a high school class project between two friends in 1981 has evolved into something much larger: a full-service custom apparel and promotional product company that has been woven into the fabric of Southern Illinois for over four decades. But more than that, Silkworm has become an integral part of the Southern Illinois University Carbondale community, supporting Saluki athletics, students, and alumni through thick and thin.
Anyone can slap a logo on a shirt. But your branded apparel isn't just merchandise, it's your reputation walking around town, your team's identity, your company's handshake before you even say hello. That's especially true when that logo happens to be the iconic Saluki.
At Silkworm, every order that comes through our doors gets the full human treatment: Real people answering your calls (not chatbots), real artists designing your vision (not AI), real craftsmen bringing it to life (not robots), and real humans who understand that when you put your name on something, it better be perfect. We're not just printing shirts; we're protecting what you've built. And that deserves more than an algorithm and a prayer.
Our journey mirrors that of many SIUC alumni, starting small with big dreams and growing through dedication, community support, and a commitment to excellence. We've expanded from a basement operation to a 32,000-square-foot facility, from a single screen printing press to seven presses and state-of-the-art equipment, and from two friends to a dedicated team of over 70 employees.
Throughout this growth, Southern Illinois University Carbondale has been more than just a client; they've been a partner. For decades, we've had the privilege of creating apparel for Saluki athletics, working with the Alumni Association, and supporting the university community in countless ways. From championship gear to everyday campus wear, we've helped Saluki pride travel far beyond Carbondale.
There's something special about the Saluki spirit: loyal, determined, and proud. These same qualities have guided our partnership with SIUC and continue to drive our commitment to quality. When alumni wear Saluki gear we've created, they're not just wearing a shirt; they're carrying their memories, their achievements, and their connection to Southern Illinois wherever they go.
We understand that for SIUC alumni, branded apparel represents more than school pride; it's a connection to formative years, lifelong friendships, and the place that helped shape who they became. That's why we treat every piece with the care and attention it deserves.
Our vendors are carefully selected for consistently delivering high-quality goods that better represent your company's brand, or in this case, your alma mater. We love what we do and appreciate our communities. We also love to give back through various sponsorships, events, donations, volunteering, and internship opportunities.
We strive to go above and beyond to provide our customers with high-quality, innovative, and budget-friendly items that truly stand out. For SIUC alumni, this means merchandise that honors your Saluki heritage while meeting the professional standards you've come to expect.
Our four-decade relationship with Southern Illinois University Carbondale isn't just about business; it's about community. We've celebrated championships, supported student organizations, and helped alumni stay connected to their roots. As we look to the future, we're excited to continue this partnership and help Saluki pride reach new heights.
Whether you're looking to outfit your company with professional gear, planning a reunion, or simply want to show your Saluki spirit, we're here to help. Because when you choose Silkworm, you're not just getting custom apparel—you're getting the human touch, quality craftsmanship, and the commitment to excellence that comes from over 40 years of serving Southern Illinois.
Quality orders, on time, delivered with awesome customer service. The human way. The Saluki way.
